A father, a grandfather, and now Wei-Lin — practising on John Street since 1968. Acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion, and a herbal dispensary that has not closed in 58 years.
Trained in Guangzhou before emigrating in 1967. Opened the first practice in the back room of a Cabramatta grocer in 1968, then took over the John Street shop in 1972. Saw patients five and a half days a week for twenty-six years.
Trained at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine before joining his father in 1990. Brought clinical research and joint Western diagnostics into the practice. Continues to consult on herbal cases two mornings a week.
Bachelor and Master of Chinese Medicine, RMIT. Five years in Melbourne before returning to John Street in 2019. AHPRA-registered Chinese medicine practitioner and the principal of the practice today.
Whole-body assessment, point selection, retention up to twenty minutes. Most patients are seen weekly to start, fortnightly once symptoms are stable.
Fire cupping and sliding cupping for muscular tension. Guāshā for chronic shoulder, neck and back patterns. Often combined with acupuncture in the same hour.
Direct rice-grain moxa and indirect needle-top burning for warming patterns of pain, cold, fatigue and digestion. Used carefully on appropriate cases.
Hand-dispensed granules or raw decoction. Diagnosis follows tongue and pulse. Two-week prescription, reviewed at the next visit. Allergies always recorded.
Cycle-staged acupuncture for irregular periods, dysmenorrhoea, IVF support and post-partum recovery. Joint care with a GP encouraged.
Pattern-based protocols for chronic insomnia, work stress and the heart-mind disquiet that often presents in mid-life. Six to eight sessions, then review.
Wei-Lin was born above the John Street shop. Bachelor of Health Science (Chinese Medicine), Master of Applied Science (Chinese Herbal Medicine), RMIT. Five years at Footscray Community Health Service before returning in 2019.
She sees every patient personally. Her father remains in the dispensary two mornings a week. The shop has been on John Street since 1972 and will not be moving.
The shop has never used an online booking system. New patients ring during opening hours and are usually seen within the same week. Family members welcome to attend together.
